Resurrection
Wedding Information

Dear Bride and Groom:
As you begin planning your wedding at Resurrection Church, we hope
these instructions will be a helpful guide. If you have questions, please
contact the church office or Pastor Zimmermann. It is our pleasure to serve you.
PREPARATION FOR MARRIAGE
Premarital
Preparation
A brief program of premarital
counseling is required of all desiring to be married at Resurrection. Generally,
the couple will meet with the pastor two or three times to help couples learn
more about each other as they prepare for their life together in marriage.
Service
Arrangements
Marriages solemnized at Lutheran
Church of the Resurrection are in accordance with the practices of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. While the wedding ceremony may lend
itself to some flexibility, couples are reminded that the celebration of
marriage is considered to be a worship service and shall conform to
practices consistent with the Christian faith. Our pastor/s will normally
officiate, although other clergy may assist at his invitation.
Flowers and
Decorations
Flowers and decorations are provided
at the expense of the bridal couple. (Three white wicker baskets and two
pedestals are available for use at no cost if you should need them.) The church
office must be notified in advance of the time flowers are to be delivered.
Wedding hostesses will arrive two hours prior to the wedding--flowers should be
delivered in that timeframe. Unless flowers are to be shared for Sunday
worship, they are to be removed immediately following the ceremony. Rice,
confetti, and birdseed is not to be thrown inside or outside the church.
Marriage
License
The marriage license shall be
presented to the church office early in the week prior to your wedding day so
that we may fill in the necessary blanks--please do not wait until the rehearsal
or your wedding day. There will be two forms and one envelope to turn in. The
original license plus the mailing envelope is for the official record, the other
(blue) is for you to keep. You will receive an official copy of the license a
few weeks after the wedding. Extra copies may be ordered through the county.
Music
The wedding is a Christian worship
service and the music should be sacred in character. The church organist will be
happy to assist you in selecting appropriate selections. It is expected that the
church organist will play for your wedding. Kindly inform the organist if you
desire to have a soloist or include other musical instruments in the service.
All music that is to be used must be pre-approved. Contact the organist as soon
as possible: James Reed: 562-698-1044.
Payment of
Fees
All fees shall be presented to the
wedding hostess or the church secretary not later than one week prior to the
wedding.
Pictures
Photos and videotape enable you to
recall your wedding ceremony, however the church has established certain
guidelines to ensure that there will be no inappropriate disturbances during the
ceremony. No flash pictures may be taken; available-light photos are
permitted. During the service photographers / videographers shall remain in a
stationary position. The wedding hostess will be happy to work with them.
Following the ceremony, the pastor will be pleased to re-enact parts of the
service for picture taking.
PLEASE REMIND YOUR GUESTS THAT FLASH PICTURES ARE NOT PERMITTED DURING THE
SERVICE.
Rehearsals
Generally rehearsals last about one
hour and are scheduled for Friday night before the wedding at 6:00pm. Let your
wedding hostess know if other arrangements need to be made. All members of the
wedding party, including parents, ushers special readers, musicians, etc. should
be present.
Wedding Hostesses
Two hostesses will be
used at all weddings. They are members of the congregation who strive
to help you make your wedding a beautiful experience. Their suggestions come
from a wealth of experience and will be very helpful to you. Your hostesses
will contact you approximately 3-4 weeks before the wedding day. Church
hostesses are Linda Griffiths and Toni Groat.
